The quality of the RFQ usually decides how fast the project moves. A request that says only "quote for a micro rectangular connector" comes back as a catalog price. A request that carries the full project context comes back with a manufacturable answer, a sample plan, and a schedule you can build around. Start with the electrical picture: number of lines, current per line at 1A, 3A, or 5A, signal type, and the maximum contact resistance accepted. Add the environment: operating temperature range, whether the equipment sees continuous vibration, and the shock level the connector must survive. Follow with the mechanical brief: the contact pair being worked to, whether that is a 0.68mm twist pin into a 0.92mm socket, the gold thickness desired at 0.8μm, 1.27μm, or a custom figure, the shell envelope or panel cutout, and how the tails will terminate. Attach the 2D drawing and 3D model so the supplier can check interference instead of imagining it. Then name the commercial facts you need. Ask directly about MOQ, sample cost and sample lead time, expected production lead time, and whether the contact variant you want is standard or made to order. Those answers depend on the project, so they belong in the RFQ rather than in an assumption. Ask as well what the supplier needs to close the specification: a surface finish note, a tolerance callout, or a test acceptance limit. The last piece is comparability. When two suppliers receive the same drawing set, the same current and plating statements, and the same acceptance limits, their quotes describe the same product. Keep a short written record of what you sent and what each supplier flagged. The questions a supplier raises often tell you more about production discipline than the price they return.
